Nigeria’s Nigeria women’s national basketball team suffered a 77–60 defeat to South Korea women’s national basketball team in their second game of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup qualification on Friday.
South Korea produced a strong performance throughout the contest to secure the victory, outscoring Nigeria in key stretches of the game and maintaining control to seal the 17-point win.
Despite the setback, the Nigerian side remain focused on preparations for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, using the qualifying tournament as a platform to test tactics and build chemistry against top international opposition.
D’Tigress had already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup after winning the 2025 Women’s Afrobasket, meaning the current fixtures serve largely as preparation ahead of the global showpiece.
The qualifying tournament, staged in France, has brought together several strong basketball nations including Colombia women’s national basketball team, Philippines women’s national basketball team, France women’s national basketball team, and Germany women’s national basketball team.
Nigeria will return to action on March 14 when they face Philippines women’s national basketball team in their next fixture as the team continues preparations for the World Cup.
