Morocco added another golden chapter to their footballing story in Qatar, defeating Jordan 3–2 in an extra-time thriller to win the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025™️ at Lusail Stadium on Thursday evening.
Returning to the same venue where they made global headlines at the FIFA World Cup 2022™️ with a historic semi-final finish, the Atlas Lions once again rose to the occasion, this time to lift the Arab Cup title in front of a packed crowd on Qatar National Day.
Early Magic, Late Drama
Tarik Sektioui’s men set the tone early, taking the lead in just the 4th minute when Oussama Tannane stunned the stadium with a sensational strike from inside his own half.
But Jordan, who were making waves in the tournament with 10 goals in five matches, fought back. Star forward Ali Olwan turned the tie around with two second-half goals, bringing his total to a tournament-leading seven and putting Jordan ahead late in the game.
Just when it looked like an upset was on the cards, veteran striker Abderrazak Hamdallah struck for Morocco—first with a last-gasp equalizer to send the final into extra time, then with a composed winner in the 100th minute to seal the title.
Historic Win Caps Dominant Campaign
Morocco’s triumph capped off a dominant campaign in which they boasted the tournament’s best defensive record, conceding only three goals across six matches.
The Arab Cup crown adds to Morocco’s growing stature on the global stage, following their World Cup heroics in 2022 and solidifying their position as Africa’s top football nation.
End of a Landmark Year for FIFA Tournaments
The final also brought the curtain down on a busy and successful two-month stretch of FIFA tournaments in Qatar. The Arab Cup concluded just a day after Paris Saint-Germain lifted the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025™️ and three weeks after Portugal won the FIFA U-17 World Cup™️—all staged across Qatar’s state-of-the-art World Cup stadiums.
