National Sports Commission (NSC) Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among stakeholders in Nigeria’s sports sector during the 50th anniversary and 9th Convocation ceremony of the National Institute for Sports (NIS).
Dikko highlighted the need for bridge-building among stakeholders, leveraging research-based approaches to unleash untapped talents, and driving grassroots sports development to boost the sports economy mandate ¹. He encouraged stakeholders to collaborate, focusing on collective strength to achieve shared goals.
The NSC Chairman commended NIS management for producing sound coaches, managers, and administrators, emphasizing their crucial role in actualizing the Commission’s mandate. He praised the institution’s access to state-of-the-art facilities, noting that this positions students to compete globally.
Dikko revealed plans to upgrade NIS to a full-fledged University of Sports, with the NSC championing the process. He charged graduands to drive change in the sector, embracing values of discipline, integrity, and excellence.
Recipients of Fellowship awards included Senator Simon Bako Lalong, Hon. Kunle Soname, and Dr. Danladi Bako, among others. Modele Sharafa Yusuf and Bashir Adewale received special recognition awards.
