The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has congratulated the Nigeria U19 Cricket Team on their stunning two-run victory over New Zealand at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia.
“I am very excited for our U19 cricket team and this particular win is worthy of celebration for so many reasons. The girls showed resilience which is the true Nigerian spirit and patriotism to upset cricket giant New Zealand,” Olopade said.
Olopade also praised the Nigeria Cricket Federation, led by President Uyi Akpata, for their efforts in elevating the standard of cricket in Nigeria. “This is why the National Sports Commission under the Chairmanship of Mallam Shehu Dikko will continue to be very supportive to the Federation.”
The NSC DG urged the team not to rest on their laurels, saying, “I am very sure our girls can go all the way and shock the entire Cricket world after the display they put up against New Zealand and that is the focus of the team.”
The Nigerian team, nicknamed the Junior Female Yellow Greens, topped Group C standings at the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup 2025 after this historic win.
