The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has imposed severe sanctions on Bendel Insurance following a breach of the league’s frameworks and rules during their Matchday 11 clash against Kano Pillars on November 9.
The Benin-based club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas and assault match officials. This incident has been deemed capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As a result, Bendel Insurance will face the following penalties:
• Deduction of 3 points and 3 goals from their accrued points and goals
• N1 million fine for misconduct
• N750,000 compensation to the assaulted match officials (Adeniyi Adewale, Anuoluwapo Balogun, and Sodiq Sonibare)
• Next 3 home matches to be played behind closed doors at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium
Bendel Insurance has 48 hours from the date of notice to appeal these sanctions.
The NPFL’s swift action aims to maintain discipline and ensure a safe environment for players, officials, and fans
