The Argentine Football Association has rejected proposals to stage the 2026 Finalissima at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, insisting the match should instead be played at a neutral venue.
The intercontinental clash between the Argentina national football team and Spain national football team is currently scheduled for March 27, but the venue remains unresolved following objections from the Argentine federation.
According to reports, the AFA was not consulted before plans emerged to host the match in Madrid and remains unconvinced by the proposal, arguing that staging the match in Spain would compromise the neutral nature of the contest.
Instead, Argentine officials have proposed Italy as an alternative neutral venue, where both teams would compete under more balanced conditions.
The Finalissima pits the champions of Copa América against the winners of the UEFA European Championship, with Argentina entering the match as South American champions and Spain representing Europe after their Euro triumph.
Organized jointly by UEFA and CONMEBOL, the fixture is designed as a showcase encounter between the two continental champions.
However, with Argentina refusing the Bernabéu proposal and advocating a neutral location in Italy, negotiations over the venue are expected to continue before a final decision is confirmed.
