Egypt Defeat Nigeria 2–1 in Pre-AFCON Friendly as Zizo Provides Two Assists

Egypt edged Nigeria 2–1 in a competitive pre-Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) friendly on Tuesday evening at the Cairo International Stadium, with Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed assisting both goals for the Pharaohs.

Mahmoud Saber opened the scoring for Egypt in the 28th minute, converting Zizo’s precise delivery. Nigeria responded in first-half stoppage time through Chidozie Awaziem, who nodded in after Zaidu Sanusi’s free kick hit the post and rebounded into his path.

The hosts regained the lead early in the second half when Mostafa Mohamed finished a well-worked move, again assisted by Zizo. Despite late pressure from the Super Eagles, Egypt held on for the win.

The match served as the final tune-up for both teams ahead of AFCON 2025 in Morocco. Nigeria, who were without Victor Osimhen, will now shift focus to their opening group game against Tanzania on December 23 in Rabat.

Egypt, also missing talisman Mohamed Salah, looked sharp in transition and defensively organized, giving coach Rui Vitória cause for optimism heading into the tournament.
