Niger Tornadoes produced a clinical display on Sunday to ease past El-Kanemi Warriors 3–0 in their NPFL Matchday 17 clash at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna. First-half composure and second-half ruthlessness combined to secure all three points for the Ikon Allah Boys.
The hosts struck early, taking the lead in the 5th minute after Akintunde Azeez converted from the penalty spot. The referee had no hesitation awarding the penalty after Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai was fouled inside the box.
El-Kanemi Warriors responded with urgency, pushing for an equaliser. Despite their attacking intent, they were unable to break down a well-organised Tornadoes backline, while the home side threatened further on the break.
In the second half, El-Kanemi introduced fresh legs in an effort to turn the tide, but Niger Tornadoes remained disciplined and composed. Head coach Majin Mohammed made decisive changes, bringing on Ahmed Family and Rickson Mendos, a move that ultimately changed the game.
In the 79th minute, Mendos rose highest to head home Ahmadu Liman’s expertly floated free-kick, doubling the advantage. Four minutes later, Mendos completed his brace, pouncing on a loose ball in the box and firing past the keeper to seal a dominant win.
Speaking during the post-match, Coach Majin Mohammed praised his team’s resilience and credited the impact of his substitutes: “We struggled at times, but our changes gave us the spark. I’m proud of the performance.”
