As part of preparations for the FIFA U20 World Cup, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Flying Eagles will engage in two international friendlies against Chile and Australia.
The matches are designed to sharpen the competitive edge of the U20 national team ahead of the global tournament.
According to Dayo Enebi Achor, Head of International Competitions at the NFF, the first friendly will see the two-time FIFA U20 World Cup silver medalists square off against *host nation Chile on Saturday, September 20. Chile is drawn in Group A, alongside New Zealand, Japan, and Egypt.
The second encounter will pitch Nigeria against Australia on Tuesday, September 23. The Australians are in Group D, which also features Italy, Cuba, and Argentina.
“The Nigeria Football Federation has finalized arrangements for the U20 boys, Flying Eagles to sharpen their skills and competition-readiness with two friendly games against host nation Chile and Australia, ahead of this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals,” the NFF Communications Department announced.
The Flying Eagles are seeking to improve on their quarter-final finish at the last edition of the tournament hosted by Argentina, where they bowed out after a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Korea Republic in extra time in Santiago del Estero.
The team departed Abuja on Sunday evening, full of optimism as preparations intensify ahead of the prestigious global showdown.
