The TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA 2024 is set to make history as three East African countries – Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda – co-host the tournament for the first time. The competition has been elevated to new heights with a record total prize pool of $10.4 million, a 32% increase from the previous edition.
The winners of CHAN PAMOJA 2024 will receive a staggering $3.5 million, a 75% increase from the previous edition. CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting the development of football across the continent, saying, “This competition is part of our strategy of investing in African football and making it appealing and attractive to football fans, TV viewers, sponsors, partners, and other stakeholders in Africa and worldwide.”
The tournament will feature 19 teams competing in four groups, with matches played across four cities: Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Kampala, and Nairobi. The opening match between Tanzania and Burkina Faso will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam at 20h00 local time (17h00 GMT).
The Championship will feature 19 teams divided into four groups. Group A consists of Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, and Zambia. Group B comprises Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, and Central African Republic, with the latter being debutants in the tournament. Group C includes Uganda, Niger, Guinea, Algeria, and South Africa, promising some thrilling matchups. Lastly, Group D features top-notch teams like Senegal, Congo, Sudan, and Nigeria, guaranteeing an exciting competition.
The tournament’s third-place playoff will be staged in Kampala on Friday, August 29, 2025 while the grand finale will take place in Nairobi’s Moi International Sports Centre on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The Championship has a significant prize money allocation for participating teams this edition. The runner-up will receive $1.2 million, while the team that finishes in third place will take home $700,000. The fourth-place finisher will earn $600,000. Teams that reach the quarterfinals will receive $450,000 each. Additionally, teams that finish third or fourth in their respective groups will be awarded $300,000 or $200,000, respectively.
