The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Committee has commended the success of the 8th AFC Medical Conference, which concluded on Friday. At its fourth meeting held in the Malaysian capital on Saturday, the Committee praised the conference’s pivotal role in strengthening sports science and medicine capabilities among AFC’s Member Associations (MAs) and Regional Associations (RAs).
AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr. Gurcharan Singh hailed the conference as the most insightful edition to date, saying: “I am convinced that this conference has played a crucial role in advancing the sports science and medicine capabilities of our MAs and RAs.”
Dr. Singh expressed gratitude to the sports science and medicine community, Aspetar, guest speakers from FIFA and the AFC’s sister confederations, and the Malaysian Government for their support in making the conference a success.
The Committee also mandated the AFC Administration to identify the host of the next edition of the conference, scheduled for 2027. Furthermore, a new award will be introduced at the next AFC Medical Awards to recognize AFC Medical Centres/Clinics of Excellence for their contributions to research, education, and player healthcare.
The Committee endorsed the Guidelines for Dental Health and On-Field Management of Dental Emergencies, the first-ever introduced in Asian football. An update on sports science and medicine initiatives implemented by the Confederation since the last meeting was also presented.
Reinforcing the AFC’s commitment to combating doping and upholding integrity, the Committee approved the AFC Registered Testing Pool for competitions in the 2026 calendar.
