Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Grassroots Sports Development and Chairman, Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Hon. Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, today paid a morale-boosting visit to Nigeria’s national armwrestling team in camp, ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 African Armwrestling Championship, scheduled to kick off in six days.
The championship, which will run from July 23 to 27 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, marks a historic first for Nigeria, with over 20 African countries expected to compete in one of the continent’s fastest-growing sports.
During the visit, Adeboye, popularly known as Zulu Authority, praised the commitment, discipline, and resilience of the athletes, encouraging them to remain focused and make the nation proud.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda places strong emphasis on using sports as a driver for youth empowerment, unity, and international recognition.
“This is a defining moment for our athletes and for Nigeria.
The whole continent will be watching, and we must rise to the occasion. “Let’s give our best and show the world the strength of Nigerian talent,” Adeboye charged.
He used the opportunity to rally Nigerians to support the championship by attending, promoting, and cheering on Team Nigeria, both physically and virtually.
He stressed that grassroots support is key to boosting athlete morale and ensuring a successful hosting.
Adeboye also revealed that the LOC is still actively seeking additional financial support from well-meaning individuals, corporate sponsors, and institutions.
“We are calling on private sector partners, philanthropists, and sports-loving Nigerians to join hands with us.
This championship is a national project, and we must deliver it at a standard that reflects the greatness of our country.”
Preparations remain in top gear as Nigeria looks to host a world-class championship that will set a benchmark for future events.
The SSA’s visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to grassroots sports development and sends a powerful message of encouragement to Team Nigeria.
