Team Nigeria has unveiled its official squad of 96 athletes for the upcoming 3rd African U18/U20 Athletics Championship, set to take place from July 16 to 20 at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The delegation includes 48 male and 48 female athletes. In breakdown: 18 athletes make up the U18 girls’ team, 24 will represent the country in the U20 women’s events, 30 athletes are listed in the U20 men’s category, and 24 boys will compete under the U18 men’s division.
To support the athletes, Team Nigeria has assembled a comprehensive technical and support crew, which includes 22 coaches, 8 medical staff, and 8 additional personnel comprising a team psychologist, physiotherapists, media representatives, a team secretary, and logistics coordinators.
Sprint relay athletes Lucy Nwankwo, Success Oyibu, Anita Itohan, and Chika Bakwunye recently participated in the AFN/Dynamic Athletics Meet to fine-tune baton exchanges and in-race chemistry, signaling the team’s final phase of preparation.
“All athletes have undergone rigorous training camps and performance assessments, with the goal of maintaining Nigeria’s dominance on the continental stage,” officials said.
The championship is expected to attract over 40 countries. With Nigeria as host, anticipation is high for a medal-rich performance that not only asserts national strength but inspires emerging talent across the country.
