Guinea has officially announced its 23-man squad for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN), with veteran midfielder Ibrahima Sory Sankhon leading a roster that blends experience and rising local talent.
Head Coach Souleymane Camara unveiled the list on Friday, signaling Guinea’s ambition to surpass its semi-final feat from the 2020 edition. The squad is currently in an intensive military camp preparing for the tournament, set to kick off on August 2, 2025, across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The Syli National will battle in what many are calling the “group of death”—Group C—alongside South Africa, Algeria, Uganda, and Niger.
Sankhon, who returned home in January to join AS Kaloum, is expected to serve as the squad’s heartbeat in midfield. He will be supported by Mohamed Madani Diarra (SAG Siguiri), Ousmane Dramé (Hafia FC), and Lansana Sylla (Horoya AC).
Guinea’s forward line features proven names like Gnagna Barry and Ismaël Camara (Horoya AC), backed by Moussa Moïse Camara (Wakriya AC), Bourhane Camara (RCC Kamsar), and Mohamed Lamine Youla (Renaissance FC), all expected to bring the attacking edge.
Coach Camara also selected a solid defensive core with nine defenders, including Kabinet Kouyaté (Hafia FC), Bangaly Cissé (ASM Sangarédi), and Mohamed Boké Camara (CI Kamsar).
Guinea’s technical crew is confident the balance across all departments will give the team the best chance to go far in a tough tournament.
