Chelsea Signs Joao Pedro in Blockbuster Deal

Chelsea Football Club has confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion on a seven-year contract, worth up to £60 million. The 23-year-old striker is set to join the team ahead of the Club World Cup knockouts and could make his debut against Palmeiras on Friday.

The deal includes an initial £55 million, with a further £5 million in performance-based add-ons, plus a sell-on clause benefiting Brighton. Joao Pedro has signed a seven-year contract with Chelsea, committing him to the club until 2032.

Chelsea has until July 3 to register new players for the Club World Cup, and Pedro’s inclusion would strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad immediately.

Joao Pedro is a versatile forward who can play as a centre-forward, second striker, wide attacker, or attacking midfielder. The Brazilian has been in strong form since moving to Brighton, scoring 30 goals and providing 10 assists in 70 appearances.

Pedro joined Brighton from Watford in May 2023 for £30 million, and his sale to Chelsea represents a significant profit for the Seagulls.

Chelsea’s recruitment team, led by Sam Jewell, has been active this summer, signing Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens, and Estevao Willian, among others. With Pedro’s arrival, Chelsea is expected to offload players like Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, and others to balance squad depth.

Joao Pedro will undergo a medical examination in the US before joining Chelsea’s squad and could make his Chelsea debut against Palmeiras on Friday.
