The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles. This decision was made after the NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee recommended Chelle for the position, which was subsequently endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee.
Chelle, a former Mali international, boasts an impressive coaching resume, having managed clubs like GS Consolat, FC Martigues, and MC Oran. He has been the Head Coach of Mali’s senior national team since 2022 and led them to a remarkable performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they narrowly lost to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the quarterfinals.
The 47-year-old French-born coach has also had a distinguished playing career, featuring for several French clubs, including Martigues, Valenciennes, and Lens.
Chelle’s appointment takes immediate effect, and he will be tasked with guiding the Super Eagles to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His first challenge will be the upcoming Matchdays 5 and 6, scheduled for March.
