The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has made an official decision regarding the abandoned match between Libya and Nigeria’s Super Eagles for 2025 Africa cup of Nations.
The Disciplinary Board of Confederation of African Football (CAF) launched an investigation into the matter which later degenerated into diplomatic row between the two countries and reviewed its rules to prevent similar incidents in the future.
- Breach of Regulations: The Libya Football Federation has been found guilty of violating Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations, as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
- Match Forfeiture: The Libya vs. Nigeria match, initially scheduled for October 15, 2024, in Benghazi, has been forfeited by Libya with a score of 3-0.
- Fine: The Libya Football Federation must pay a $50,000 fine within 60 days of notification.
- Additional Motions: All other motions and requests for relief have been dismissed.
This decision comes following Libya’s breach of CAF regulations and disciplinary codes, resulting in severe consequences for the Libyan Football Federation.
