Abia Warriors secured a thrilling 3-1 victory over Plateau United in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 8 fixture, thanks to an inspirational performance from captain Augustine Njoku.
The Umuahia-based side came from behind to claim all three points at the Umuahia Township Stadium, boosting their league standings.
Imama Amapakabo’s side showed intent from the start, with Paul Samson and Daniel Ekpo threatening the Plateau United goal. However, against the run of play, Adamu Abubakar capitalized on a defensive mix-up to give the visitors the lead in the 39th minute.
Undeterred, Njoku spearheaded the Warriors’ fightback. He received a pass from Ekpo and set up Ojonugwa Adejoh, who assisted Sunday Megwo’s acrobatic equalizer on the stroke of halftime.
Njoku’s influence continued in the 49th minute, as he embarked on a impressive run, evading tackles and setting up Ojonugwa for the go-ahead goal.
Paul Samson sealed the win with a stunning strike in the 56th minute, cutting inside the box and unleashing a powerful shot.
The victory marked a remarkable turnaround for Abia Warriors, who had lost to Nasarawa United in their previous match.
