Super Eagles Maintain Group D Lead with Narrow Victory

Nigeria edged Libya 1-0 in Uyo on Friday, maintaining their lead in Group D of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s 86th-minute goal, assisted by Moses Simon, secured the win for Coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side.

Simon was a constant threat, while Libya’s defense held strong. Nigeria’s Boniface, filling in for Victor Osimhen, was unable to find the back of the net. Alex Iwobi and William Ekong had earlier chances, but Libya’s goalkeeper Murad Abu Bakr Alwuheeshi made impressive saves.

In the second half, Iwobi and substitute Samuel Chukwueze were denied by Alwuheeshi. However, Dele-Bashiru’s late strike sealed the win.

The result keeps Nigeria top of Group D, one point ahead of Benin Republic, who defeated Rwanda 3-0. A win for Nigeria in Benina on Tuesday will likely secure their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
