Goalkeeper and stand-in captain of
Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, today put up an impressive performance as usual to help the Benin Arsenals run away with a goalless draw at Abia Warriors in the Match Day 35 of the Nigeria Premier Football League.
The valuable away point from the Umuahia trip keeps Insurance FC safe as the nation’s premier league is approaching its end with just three fixtures remaining.
The smart goalkeeper has been maintaining a high standard of reflexes in goal for Bendel Insurance, keeping a record of eighteen matches with clean sheet so far and six consecutive matches without conceding in the second round.
In the 11th and 70th minutes of play at the Umuahia Township stadium,Amas Obasogie made superb saves among others to deny the Warriors the chances to score.
Insurance strikes however made some efforts in search of goals and victory but the home team resisted them.
In the 38 minutes of the game,Meze Chukwudi and Chisom Okereke made a good combination in Insurance attack to unsettle Abia Warriors in their rare but the host team’s defenders were lucky enough to prevent the upset
Meze Chukwudi again,came close to getting the breakthrough for Insurance in the 56th and 63rd minutes but his close range shot went wide.
The hosts however made some last minute rush but the Benin Arsenals held on and remained resilient to the end and ensured they shared the spoils.
Recall that Insurance defeated the Warriors in their first round meeting in Benin 1-0, courtesy of Evans Ogbonda’s 6th minute goal in the Match Day 15 encounter at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Bendel Insurance FC now have 50 points to remain comfortable and will be playing host to Rivers Utd in the Match Day 36 fixture in Benin.
