In view of the unforseen circumstances that prevented Sunshine Stars of Akure from participating in the 2023 edition of the ValueJet Cup Pre-season Football tournament, the organisers of the event have replaced the Owena team with three-time TCC League champions, Beyond Limits FA.
The replacement of Sunshine Stars was announced by the event’s Director of Communications, Mr. Tobi Adepoju.
He said: “We have replaced Sunshine Stars with Beyond Limits FA. We are sad about the incident, it is an unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control despite offering options to help the club.
“We have put in place professional plans over the past few days to stage an exciting tournament. We will have seven NPFL clubs with history and we believe strongly that Beyond Limits FA will create a competitive balance.”
The opening game of the ValueJet Cup 2023 will be played Friday, August 4 at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne after the tournament draws is held earlier in the day. The closing ceremony holds on 10th August.
The list of participating clubs include seven NPFL clubs: Sporting Lagos FC, Kwara United, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan, Heartland Fc of Owerri, Remo Stars of Ikenne and Beyond Limits FA.
All the eight participating teams will get N500,000 appearance fees each and the eventual champions will go home with a giant trophy and cash prize of N2million, while the first runners up take N1.5m and the third placed team, N1million.
