Former Ogun State Commissioner of Sports and C.E.O Nilayo Sports Limited, Hon. Bukola Olopade has urged retired football players to make use of their experience in moulding a healthy society through positive advocacy in their area of specialisation. Olopade made the call when the President of All Stars Football Club, Abeokuta, Waheed Adeoye Lawal led the elders council to pay him a courtesy visit at his residence in Abeokuta, Olopade while welcoming his guests, described them as “members of my family” and charged them to use their experience to reposition sports to its once enviable state in the State.
Hon. Olopade revealed his company’s involvement in the biding process that culminated in Delta State winning the hosting rights of the just concluded National Sports Festival, he disclosed that his sports management company, Nilayo also wrote the bidding papers that won the 2024 hosting rights for Ogun State.
Olopade who described Sports as “food that feeds the mind”, concluded that “Ogun is a state that should never ever be at the lower level of sports in the country as we have people of timber and caliber in your mould”.
The highpoint of the visit was the presentation of a congratulatory portrait in commemoration of the installation of Hon. Olopade and his wife as high chiefs in Egbaland
Presenting the portrait, the All Stars President, Alh. Waheed Lawal disclosed that they had wanted to present the gift earlier but could not, due to Hon. Olopade’s unavoidable long absence from home.
Lawal said the Club deemed it fit to give honour to whom it is due and also to felicitate with an illustrious son of the soil. He noted that Chief Olopade has always been a fervent supporter of active and retired footballers in the State,so also his imprint as a Commissioner of sports in the State are still been felt allover,so “any honour accorded him at home is never misplaced”
With the President on the visit was former African Coach of the year, Kadiri Ikhana amongst others.
